How did our Futures Trading Algo Do Today?
Discipline
No qualifying setup, no trade: sitting out a choppy, headline driven day is a decision too.
The paper book stayed flat today. None of our strategies found a qualifying setup on the Nasdaq 100 or S&P 500 futures, so no trades were taken and the day closed at $0. On a session whipsawed by oil and Iran headlines, staying selective was the plan working, not a miss.

The story
Blue chips led on Tuesday as oil pulled back from a six month high. The Dow rose 1.02% to 52,497, the S&P 500 added 0.29% to 7,712, and the Nasdaq Composite was flat at 26,424. Small caps did best, with the Russell 2000 up 1.65%. Health care stocks hit a record high, led by Eli Lilly, while tech lagged as worries about AI companies' debt resurfaced. Brent crude touched about $112 on Iran fears before reversing on hopes for peace talks, and the 10 year Treasury yield eased to about 5.12%.
The MAG7 and the megacaps
Big tech had a quiet day. The Nasdaq Composite ended flat at 26,424 while the rest of the market rose. Apple slipped after Loop Capital downgraded the stock, saying it expects about 10% fewer iPhone shipments. Meta fell for a fifth straight day ahead of its earnings report on Wednesday night. Chip stocks bounced off their early lows but still trailed the market as investors questioned how AI spending will be paid for.
After the bell
Oil reverses from a six month high
Brent crude climbed to about $112 a barrel on fears around Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, then fell back on reports that talks could ease tensions. US crude closed down 1.8% at $101.79 but is still close to 80% higher than a year ago, which keeps pressure on gas prices and inflation.
Earnings lift blue chips
3M rose after beating estimates and expanding a data center deal with Amazon. Equifax and Hasbro each jumped about 11%. GM fell about 7% even with a $20 billion buyback, because its full year profit outlook came in below expectations.
AI debt worries
Investors are questioning the borrowing behind AI data centers. CoreWeave and Nebius have each fallen about 35% in two weeks, and the cost of insuring Oracle's debt is at its highest since at least 2021. That kept chip and AI stocks under pressure.
SpaceX and Netflix after the bell
SpaceX said its AI business now brings in more money than Starlink, with sales up 161%. Elon Musk also says he will give one SpaceX share to every US child next year, a pledge with no details yet. Netflix beat on profit but guided fourth quarter sales below estimates and cut its ad revenue forecast.
Crypto
Bitcoin rose 1.02% to about $82,690. It traded between roughly $82,665 and $83,112 in the latest session. Crypto moved with stocks today, though the two do not always travel together.
Into the night
Overseas markets were weaker. South Korea's Kospi fell 3.5% and Japan fell 1.5%, as Korean AI data center company Elice dropped 32% on its first day of trading. In Europe, France lagged as protests and worries about its budget pushed its borrowing costs to the widest gap over Germany since 2011. After the US close, SpaceX reported third quarter sales up 161% to $14.6 billion and a $4.4 billion profit, and its shares rose after hours. Netflix fell about 6% after hours on a fourth quarter forecast below estimates.
